General Motors CEO Dan Akerson announced that owners of nearly all 2014 Chevrolet, Buick, and GMC models will gain the benefit of having free maintenance for about two years.
Akerson thinks it can build sales and brand loyalty. Loyalty is key Akerson said customers who have service done at the dealership are more likely to return there for their next purchase.
Theres a more comprehensive program already offered on Cadillac models, which competes directly with other luxury cars.
All of this started years ago with luxury cars and more recently, Toyota and Volkswagen have offered free maintenance across their US lineups.
Dealers like these maintenance programs because it can become a relationship builder to close future sales and draws customers back to their stores as service customers. But some dealers dont like the payback situation with GM for some of the transactions.
