This post is classified in the A2A4 grade band of the Coordinated Organisations salary scale. LOCATION ESOC, Darmstadt Germany with a resident assignment to ECSAT, Harwell United Kingdom. DUTIES The postholder will initially be assigned as integrated support to the function of Ground Segment Engineer in the Ground Segment Technologies and Products Section, Technologies and Products Division, Telecommunications Technologies, Products and Systems Department, Directorate of Telecommunications and Integrated Applications. Heshe will report to the Head of the Ground Segment Technologies and Products Section and will be responsible for the management of activities related to telecommunication user and ground segment technology and products including initiation, in collaboration with the Procurement Department and other relevant ESA departments, of activities related to ground segment technology and product development for satellite communications establishment and control of relevant ESA requirements, specifications and general documentation negotiation, monitoring and control of contracts and activities related to ground segment technology and product development preparation of inputs to status reports identification and definition of the ground segment product and technology needs for future satellite communication services actively following market and technology trends relevant to the SatCom ground segment provision of the technical support required in the field of responsibility and coordination of the specialised engineering support provided by the Directorate of Human Spaceflight and Operations in the appropriate areas of competence, liaising with specialists from other ESA departments as needed. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants for this post should have a Masters degree or equivalent qualification in engineering and experience in the satellite telecommunications user andor ground segment. Technical experience and qualifications required include an understanding of SatCom ground segment architectures for broadcasting, broadband, trunking, backhauling and mobile applications expertise in some or all areas of RF and Microwave including LNAs, SSPAs, TWTAs, filters, frequency converters ground antennas for both fixed and mobile SatCom systems communication protocols including quality of service aspects, upper layer techniques in IP and networking, air interface techniques gateway, RF and antenna solutions and operations for both fixed and mobile SatCom systems. experience of working in the satellite telecommunications industry is an asset proven ability to manage development contracts for ground segment equipment is required specific experience in satellite telecommunications commercial market development is desirable. Behavioural requirements include excellent organisation skills attention to detail a problemsolving attitude the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these two languages is required together with a working knowledge of the other language.
