This post is classified in the A2A4 grade band of the Coordinated Organisations salary scale. LOCATION ESOC, Darmstadt Germany with a resident assignment to ESTEC, Noordwijk Netherlands or ECSAT, Harwell United Kingdom. DUTIES The postholder will initially be assigned as integrated support to the function of Ground Segment Engineer in the Ground and User Segment Technologies and Products Section, Technologies and Products Division, Telecommunications Technologies, Products and Systems Department, Directorate of Telecommunications and Integrated Applications. Reporting to the Head of that Section, the incumbent will be responsible for managing activities related to telecommunication user and ground segment technology and products, including initiating, in collaboration with the Procurement Department and other relevant ESA departments, activities related to ground segment technology and product development for satellite communications establishing and controlling the relevant ESA requirements, specifications and general documentation negotiating, monitoring and controlling contracts and activities related to ground segment technology and product development preparing inputs for status reports identifying and defining the ground segment product and technology needs for future satcom services actively monitoring market and technology trends relevant to satcom ground segment providing the technical support required in the field of responsibility and coordination of the specialised engineering support provided by the Directorate of HSO in the appropriate areas of competence, liaising with specialists from other ESA departments as needed. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants for this post should have a Masters degree or equivalent qualification in engineering and experience of satellite telecommunications user andor ground segment. Technical experience and qualifications shall include an understanding of satcom ground segment architectures, products e.g. user terminals, gateways and system solutions for broadcasting, broadband, trunking, backhauling and mobile applications expertise in the area of RF and antenna technology for both fixed and mobile satcom user terminals experience of LNAs, SSPAs, TWTAs, filters, frequency converters, work in the satcom industry being an asset a proven ability to manage development contracts for ground segment equipment specific experience of satcom commercial market development is desirable. The required managerial and behavioural skills include excellent organisational skills attention to detail problemsolving focus an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. For behavioural competencies expected from ESA staff, please refer to the ESA Competency Framework. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these two languages is required together with a working knowledge of the other language. Knowledge of another member state language is an asset.
