Ground Segment Network and System Engineer

TASKS The Key Person will be mainly providing engineering support to the EPSSG Ground Segment Technical Manager in the frame of the EPSSG Preparatory Programme Phase B. The duties range from the analysis, design, installation, and testing of the communications networks system. This may include support to the procurement of hardware and software, and the coordination with external service providers. The tasks will nominally cover the entire development lifecycle. In particular during the initial phase the tasks will include Support to Ground Segment requirements engineering analysis, validation, allocation and maintenance Assistance to the definition of the ground segment interfaces Definition of EPSSG GS Network requirements Support to Ground Segment design architecture definition, including analyses, tradeoffs and compilation of technical budgets Establishing the overall EPSSG GS Network Design Identification of areas of risk and contributing to any related trade off studies or prototyping activities Support to Ground segment reviews Requirements Review and Preliminary Design Review Participation in reviews and meetings at system, ground segment and facility level Write and review requirement specifications and change proposals Participate in technical inspections and reviews, document the communication and network architecture system desidesign and write evaluation reports Review reports, test reports and overall status reports In the performance of these tasks, the Key person shall apply the relevant system engineering standards, quality management procedures and maintenance procedures. PROFILE The Key person shall have a university degree or equivalent in an engineering discipline relevant to the job profile together with the experience and capability to fulfil the assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision. The Key person shall have, as a prerequisite, a demonstrated experience in a similar function for at least three years working with high availability systems. Key Skills Knowledge and experience with the following is considered mandatory Experience in preparation of system requirements and design documentation Knowledge of Cisco network and security equipment and architectures Knowledge of high availability network architectures and protocols e.g. HSRP, VSS Familiarity with network management, QoS and traffic shaping principles Familiarity with satellite communications DVB, VSAT, Point to Point links. Knowledge and experience with the following is considered an advantage Experience in the definition of space related ground segments Experience in the integration and verification of such systems Experience in systemlevel analyses from an endtoend perspective Knowledge of ECSS standards. Knowledge and experience with the following is considered beneficial Experience in use of requirements management and traceability tools e.g. DOORS Experience in the use of modelling and design tools in support of architectural design activities e.g. CORE Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite, including MSVisio. The Key person shall be in possession of sound management and interpersonal skills to conduct the responsibilities described above autonomously and with a minimum level of supervision, exhibiting good oral and written communications skills, analytical capabilities, and motivation. The official working languages are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore the Key person must be able to work effectively in this language and have knowledge of the other. REPORTING AND WORK ALLOCATION The working hours shall be Mo Monday to Friday The Key person shall be in a position to attend reviews and progress meetings held outside premises
