Post The Department of Astronomy of the University of Geneva is opening the post of the Ground Segment Test Coordinator for CHEOPS, ESAs first Sclass mission due for launch end of 2017. Location The location of the post is the Geneva Observatory Switzerland with an increasing presence at the location of the Mission Operator in Madrid Spain. CHEOPS The CHaracterizing ExOPlanet Satellite CHEOPS will be the first mission dedicated to the search for transits by means of ultrahigh precision photometry on bright stars already known to host planets. By being able to point at nearly any location on the sky, CHEOPS will provide the unique capability of determining accurate radii for a subset of those planets for which the mass has already been estimated from groundbased spectroscopic surveys. It will also provide precision radii for new planets discovered by the next generation groundbased transits surveys Neptunesize and smaller. More information about the CHEOPS mission is accessible at httpcheops.unibe.ch Duties For CHEOPS, the Department of Astronomy of the University of Geneva is responsible for the development and operations of the Science Operations Centre and the overall coordination of the Ground Segment. In the CHEOPS Ground Segment integration and test team the Ground Segment test coordinator has the following tasks and responsibilities Ensuring that the test and validation activities for the complete Ground Segment for all its configurations are performed properly and in time Leading the Ground Segment integration and test team meetings Leading the Science Operations Simulations Establishing and maintaining the CHEOPS Ground Segment test and simulations related documentation Contributing to the preparation and execution of the prelaunch Ground Segment tests and the inorbit commissioning campaign Providing input and support to CHEOPS project partners for validation and verifications activities Preparing and participating in the CHEOPS GS reviews Monitoring the MOC, SOC and satellite development and validation activities with a focus on validation related activities. Qualifications Applicants to this post should have A degree in space engineering or equivalent Experience in satellite operations especially ground segment operations Experience in integration and validation of heterogeneous systems An excellent level of written and spoken English The readiness for extensive travelling in Europe mainly Spain and The Netherlands. Preference will be given to candidates with Experience in project management of international teams A good level of Spanish Suisse nationality or a valid work permit for Switzerland Contract and closing date According to university regulations, the initial contract is for 1 year renewable over the full 3 years of the assignment. The salary is according to the regulations of the State of Geneva. The start date of the contract is as soon as possible.
