(Telecompaper) Four existing Hong Kong mobile network operators have successfully bid for a total of 50 MHz of radio spectrum in the 2.5/2.6 GHz band at a total of HKD 1.54 billion in spectrum utilisation fees. Four existing mobile operators and one new entrant took part in the auction. Genius Brand bid HKD 290 million for its 2x5 MHz block, SmarTone Telecommunications bought two paired 5 MHz blocks for HKD 640 million in total, China Mobile Hong Kong bid HKD 300 million for one spectrum block, and CSL bid HKD 310 million for one paired 5 MHz block. Hong Kong's Office of the Communications Authority (OFCA) will assign the spectrum to the successful bidders for fifteen years.
