Housing plan in Mahwah raises concern for the future

Planning Board members at their Aug. 24 meeting peppered an environmental expert with questions about the remediation of contaminants on the property comprising the Apple Ridge Country Club and its possible impact on future homeowners. Kenneth N. Paul, of EcolSciences Inc. in Rockaway, reiterated that Apple Ridge Mahwah LLC, the applicant, was proposing to blend the top 2 feet to 3 feet of soil with clean soil over the entire property to dilute the contaminants and bring them within acceptable state-permitted levels.
