How Intel's Altera Buy Will Hurt TSMC

Intel 's $16.7 billion acquisition proposal to buy programmable logic device maker Altera is bad news for foundry manufacturer Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp , or TSMC , according to Maybank analyst Warren Lau. Altera has been a key customer at TSMC for years, especially at the advanced tech node, accounting for around 3% of TSMC's revenue at 20/28 nodes.
