Similar to the wireless industry's transition from GSM to GPRS, one where operators would talk about 2.5G, the question is whether the eventual move to 5G will be preceded by a mid-stage state that some call "4.5G." A number of vendors, including Huawei, Nokia, Ericsson and Qualcomm have weighed in on the wireless industry's latest naming trend.
