For our activities in EUMETSAT, we are currently looking for an Image Quality Assessment Engineer to work as a member of the Image Quality Assessment Team of INRC Image Navigation, Registration and Calibration supporting the mediumterm and longterm monitoring, operation and further development of Level 1 data processing systems. The key person shall support the quality assessment and validation of the Level 1 image products for current and future GEO missions but will also provide support to current and future LEO missions in this area. Moreover, heshe shall support the development and maintenance of monitoring software for Level 1 image quality assessment as well as support the software maintenance of the operational Meteosat Second Generation Level 1 data processing systems. This includes a significant contribution to and active participation in verification and validation test activities. In addition, the key person shall also support the operations preparations for future MSG spacecraft and may be required to support the development activities for the MTG Meteosat Third Generation and EPS Second Generation missions. The activity is assumed, as a baseline, to require the fulltime participation of a Key person for the duration of the contract. The tasks of the key person will be carried out mainly at EUMETSAT facilities in Darmstadt, but travel within Europe may be required for certain activities. Tasks and Responsibilities The tasks of the Key person will typically include Monitoring the mediumterm to longterm performance of Level 1 data processing systems, including the performance of their algorithms, and monitoring the quality of the generated Level 1 image products Developing and maintaining image quality assessment software, including the specification, verification and validation testing of software developments Supporting the further development of the MSG Level 1 data processing system, including the specification, verification and validation testing of system updates Supporting the investigation and correction of anomalies related to the performance of the MSGMTP Level 1 data processing systems Supporting the preparations for future GEO and LEO missions in the area of image quality assessment Attendance at technical meetings Participation in formal reviews. Requirements In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the key person shall have Extensive theoretical knowledge of Level 1 data processing algorithms for image navigation, registration and calibration and the techniques used for assessing the geometric and radiometric quality of Level 1 image products A minimum of 3 years of experience in specifying, prototyping, verifying and validating Level 1 data processing algorithms A minimum of 3 years experience in the processing and analysis of data from imaging andor sounding instruments on remote sensing spacecraft Significant experience of validating remote sensing products and complex remote sensing data processing systems. In addition, the Key person shall have practical, demonstrable experience inwith Software engineering, in particular in algorithm software development, in a Unix environment using CC, and ideally also Python and MatlabIDL Implementation of scientific algorithms from a given specification. Furthermore, it would be a distinct advantage for the key person to have experience with or knowledge of some of the following Spacecraft andor ground segment operations Imaging and sounding instrumentation for remote sensing spacecraft. The key person shall be able to conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner, shall be able to work calmly and correctly under stress and must be able to work with the minimum of supervision. Fluency in English is mandatory and a working knowledge of French would be an advantage, together with good communication skills.
