Uber plans to build its new headquarters on the vacant parcels along Third Street, across from UCSF's Mission Bay campus. Mission Bay's selling point as a life sciences center has always been an ecosystem of startups, academic research at UCSF, established players like Bayer HealthCare and Celgene Corp. and up-and-comers like FibroGen Inc. and Nektar Therapeutics.
