We are currently looking for a Instrument Operation Scientist to support our customer in Spain. Instrument Operation Scientist Key Tasks and Responsibilities The Instrument Operations Scientist will work for Gaia Mission within the Science Operations Centre SOC at ESAC and will have the following responsibilities Acting as interface between the SGS and a certain number of PI Teams Track the science capabilities of an instrument during its development phase and assuring completeness and validity, applying and running instrument modelssimulations, etc. Coordinating of the calibration efforts by the ESA IDTs and the instruments principal investigator teams Understand the functionality of the instrument data to be archived Support the provision of SPICE kernels e.g. Instrument specific, orbit attitude Contribute to the SGS preparation activities Aid in analysing and correcting anomalous situations and instrument behaviours onboard Performing calibration activities for the scientific instruments Interact appropriately with and support the algorithm providers Aid in optimising onboard parameters and overall operational strategies in the interest of maximising Gaias scientific return Interface between MOCAirbus DS and SOC and aid in maintaining the part of the onboard software with relevance for science operations. Skills Experience You will have the following qualifications and relevant experience Academic degree in relevant discipline solid background in the analysis of spectral and time domain data acquired on variable stars Experience with miscellaneous time domain analysis methods and knowledge of the analysis methods used by CU7 is a must Experience in designing, coding and testing the resulting science analysis software using JAVA is required Fluency in English is mandatory knowledge of another European language is an advantage.
