2015-03-30 09:08:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) Intel is in advanced negotiations to buy Altera, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing sources familiar with the matter. The move would represent Intel's biggest-ever acquisition. Altera closed 27 March with a valuation of USD 13.4 billion. Altera, based in California, is one of the two largest makers of field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), which can be configured by customers for various tasks after they are manufactured. FPGAs are widely used in carrier networks, computer-networking equipment, cars and other products. Altera's revenue increased 12 percent in 2014 to USD 1.93 billion. In 2013, Intel agreed to offer its most advanced production process to Altera.
