The theory of characteristic mode analysis (CMA) is a well-known method that allows for the analysis of arbitrary structures, and gives insight into the resonating behaviors of structures. This application note describes CMA as an innovative alternative for design optimizations for problems such as antenna design, and when applied with the correct interpretation, the possible solutions are endless.
