J.R. Simplot Company Settles to reduce SO2 emissions at 5 plants.

Settlement involving U.S. EPA, U.S. Department of Justice, and J.R. Simplot Company resolves alleged Clean Air Act violations regarding modifications made at 5 sulfuric acid plants in CA, ID, and WY. Simplot will spend ~$42 million to install, upgrade, and operate pollution controls that will cut sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions, fund wood stove replacement project in CA, and pay $899,000 civil penalty. Company will also implement plan to continuously monitor SO2 emissions at all 5 plants.
