National Geographic: Jamestown archaeologists have discovered the first evidence of cannibalism by desperate colonists driven by hunger during the Starving Times of 1609-1610, at the first permanent English settlement in the New World. Portions of the butchered skull and shinbone of a 14-year-old girl from England were unearthed last year while researchers excavated a trash deposit at the James Fort site.
