Jefferson Parish Council puts environmental regulators on the hot seat

2014-11-05 20:57:33| Waste Management - Topix.net

In Jefferson Parish, the question is "What's that smell?" It might be a whiff of coal dust coming off a barge in the Mississippi River, sulfur breezing over from a plant in Chalmette or an illegal and potentially dangerous emission, origin unknown. For years, residents and elected officials have dialed 911 to report worrisome odors, without learning whether the emission was toxic or what action was taken to ensure it wouldn't happen again.
