Judge decides not to allow environmental groups to testify against Exxon settlement

2015-07-13 20:03:53| Chemicals - Topix.net

In a blow to their efforts to block a controversial $225 million environmental settlement between the Christie administration and Exxon Mobil, a state judge Monday rejected the request by eight environmental groups and a state senator to intervene in the case and testify against the settlement. The environmental groups filed the request to testify before the judge in an effort to convince him not to approve the settlement, which is far lower than the $9 billion the state originally sought in natural resource damage claims related to nearly a century of pollution that damaged 1,800 acres of wetlands around two refineries in Bayonne and Linden once owned by the oil giant.
