Judge lets A&P limit seniority bumping; unions granted higher severance
2015-09-02 03:28:49| Grocery - Topix.net
Bankrupt supermarket chain A&P and the union representing most of its store workers each won a partial victory in bankruptcy court Tuesday, with the judge allowing the company to place restrictions on seniority bumping rights at 25 stores scheduled to close by mid-October, but also recommending more severance pay for workers at those stores than what Montvale-based A&P sought to pay its employees. U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Robert Drain said he understands that workers are frustrated that The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co., commonly known as A&P, isn't standing by its contractual promises, but added that "bankruptcy as a whole is about broken promises."
