KT's Q4 profits tumble 55%

(Telecompaper) South Korean operator KT saw its fourth quarter net income tumble 54.6 percent to KRW 94 billion from KRW 207 billion in the year-ago quarter as expenses increased. Revenues rose 3.6 percent to KRW 6.20 trillion from KRW 5.99 trillion in the year-ago quarter. Wireless revenues fell 0.9 percent to KRW 1.70 trillion due to interconnection fee adjustments and tariff discounts, while fixed-line revenues tumbled 8.4 percent as PSTN reveneuss fell to KRW 1.55 trillion. Media/content revenues increased 50 percent to KRW 323 billion on subscriber and ARPU growth, finance/rental revenues were up 14.6 percent to KRW 955 billion as BC Card and kt Rental were consolidated, and other revenues totalled KRW 355 billion, up 3.8 percent year-on-year. However, EBITDA slipped 5.8 percent to KRW 908 billion. KT ended the fourth quarter with 17.44 million mobile subscribers, up 0.7 percent year-on-year, which includes 3.90 million LTE customers. The company also had 18.67 million telephony customers, down 2.6 percent, 8.04 million broadband subscribers, up 2.7 percent, and 4.03 million IPTV subscribers, up 31 percent year-on-year.
