Diplomat: According to a new study, printed in the journal Environmental Research Letters, more than two million people lose their lives each year due to poor air quality. Researchers found that approximately 2.1 million premature deaths are the result of anthropogenic increases on fine particulate matter -- which includes dust, soot, and smoke -- measuring less than 2.5 micrometers in diameter (PM2.5).
