L Brands reports - best December ever'; sales jump 8%

The Columbus-based retailer, parent of Victoria's Secret and Bath & Body Works, posted an increase of 8 percent in comparable store sales, a key indicator of a retailer's health. Analysts had predicted a 3.9 percent increase, and even that was seen only days ago as a far more optimistic outlook than that seen for "most mall-based retailers, who have felt business pressures from multiple directions," said Ken Perkins, president of Retail Metrics, a retail research firm.
