LG Electronics loss narrows on appliance sales

LG Electronics Inc. narrowed its net loss in the December quarter, aided by brisk sales of its home appliances but China's slowing economy is casting a cloud on the company's prospects. The company's mobile unit also remained mired in losses as its smartphones sales fell, posing a continued financial risk for the South Korean electronics maker that now relies on gadgets such as refrigerators and air-conditioners with lengthy lifespans to propel profit growth.
