(Telecompaper) LG Electronics is acquiring HP's WebOS mobile-software operations. HP will retain WebOS's patents and license certain technology to LG, which plans to put the technology into its web-connected televisions, Bloomberg reports citing Hewlett-Packard chief operating officer Bill Veghte. LG will get the WebOS code, an unknown number of engineers in Silicon Valley, and acquire an open-source software version of the operating system - Open webOS - for an undisclosed amount. TVs with WebOS could hit the market as early as next year.
