Lawmakers want to make Access-A-Ride recertification easier

Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis and State Sen. Andrew Lanza are pushing for a simpler recertification application for Access-A-Ride users. Under current law, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's paratransit service requires a recertification every five years that entails paperwork, doctor visits and physical evaluations at Access-A-Ride offices -- a thorough process that, the MTA says, keeps users from abusing the program.
