Carthage, Mo.-based furniture manufacturer Leggett & Platt Inc. will lay off 64 employees and close its Colorado Springs plant by June 1, according to a layoff notice. The company is closing the plant, which makes springs for the bedding industry, as part of a consolidation resulting from excess capacity and will begin laying off employees in mid-April, said Michael Altman, Leggett & Platt's director of labor relations.
