Our client is looking for motivated and dynamic Lead structural Analyst to help shape and influence current and future flight spacecraft structures. You will be responsible for the analysis of new structural developments and oversee the structural subsystems from concept through to ground verification testing and flight whilst working closely with mechanical design and principal engineers. The role will involve structural analysis and test activities. You will report to the Mechanical Analysis Functional Lead within the structure and mechanical systems department, and work closely within a team of project managers, design engineers, system engineers and principal engineers. Key Tasks Undertaking and leading structural analysis and test activities for both inhouse and 3rd party structures and subsystems. Reviewing proposed designs ensuring that they are structurally fit for purpose. Generating and managing appropriate analytical models of structures and sub systems for verification of structural strength and stiffness requirements. Finite element modelling of mechanical components, joints and structures. Carrying out quasistatic and dynamic analysis and generating structural margins of safety using finite element methods and hand calculations Defining and organising appropriate structural tests including acoustic, vibration, shock, mass properties and static testing. Defining and organising appropriate lower level tests for component allowable determination. Defining test load levels and notch profiles. Correlating and validating analytical models to obtain agreement with experimental data. Developing environmental envelope specifications from launch documentation, analysis and test data. Specifyingidentifying appropriate materials and surface treatments for mechanical component design Support offsite, normally UK based, but sometimes international environmental test campaigns. Maintain an analysis log, summarising each step in the analysis, development and test process. Documenting analysis and writing test reports. Reporting and presenting work at internal peer reviews and external customer reviews. Developing and maintaining appropriate schedule and budget for the mechanical subsystems with the missions Project Manager, reporting and managing appropriate risk. Qualifications A good 1st Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent Experience Proven Mechanical analysis experience in Spacecraft, Aircraft or Formula 1 industry is essential. Knowledge and Skills Experience of software packages including NastranPatran, HyperMesh, SmartOffice, MATLAB and Ansys Workbench. Experience in analysis of both metallic and composite materials. Detailed hand stressing and margin of safetyreserve factor calculation. Experience of Static, Dynamic, stability and thermoelastic analysis. A good understanding of the principles of FEA. Experience of vibration or static testing. Experience of and able to work productively in a team environment. Good management and organisational skills. Willing to be accountable and take responsibility to deliver a high standard of work Able to be flexible to changing work demands and able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines. Experience of documenting and presenting work effectively. Innovative, selfmotivated and proactive in solving issues. Competent in Microsoft Office suite. Proven effective communication with project managers and customers.
