Researchers at Biosolar LLC, Millbury, Ohio, have generated long-chain olefins from lard, tallow, olive oil, canola oil and waste canola cooking oil. Irradiation with ultraviolet light produced long-chain alkenes, dienes, trienes, as well as glycerol byproduct.
