The general task of the key person will be the provision of support and advice to the algorithm development group for geostationary satellites. SheHe will support the Image Navigation, Registration and Calibration Competence Area in the Remote Sensing and Products RSP Division of EUMETSAT with a particular focus on the MTGFCI mission. Heshe will interface with inhouse experts of various disciplines system, instruments, operations, science, and in particular members of the MTG Science and Instrument Teams. Specifically, the tasks of the key person will include the provision of support to The development of MTGFCI Level1 Reference Processor The scientific and engineering analysis of the radiometric calibration algorithms of L1 data from MTGFCI Specifying requirements and establishing specifications for the MTGFCI solar and lunar calibration products Definition, specification, design and development of additional monitoring tools for the future MTGFCI The development and the upgrade of the MultiMission Calibration System MuMiCS to achieve better accuracy, which include Pseudoinvariant calibration sites, Rayleigh scattering over the sea, Lunar calibration, Deep Convective Clouds. The development and the upgrade of the MultiMission System for InterCalibration MuMiSIC within the context of instrument monitoring and EUMETSATs involvement in GSICS activities The OPS Department in the routine operation of the MuMiCS and MuMiSIC Maintenance of the GIRO and GLOD infrastructure within GSICS, including the updating the GIRO with enhancements available from EUMETSATs partners Analyse the performance of different calibration techniques, including lunar calibration Support relevant satellite intercalibration studies, in particular in the context of GSICS activities Documentation, including writing of Algorithm Theoretical Basis Documents ATBDs, Specification Documents, Verification and Validation reports, and technical notes on the above activities. PROFILE The key person shall have the following background, as a prerequisite A university degree or comparable qualifications in Meteorology, Atmospheric Physics or related subjects. Heshe shall be familiar with satellite instrument characteristics for Earth observation, in particular calibration and validation of Level 1 data. And the following specific technical skills and experience A demonstrated experience of a minimum of 5 years in the area of satellite meteorology or satellite data processing, including at least 3 years of experience on onboard and vicarious calibration methods including lunar calibration and the use of pseudo invariant targets such as desert and ocean targets. The key person shall be able to demonstrate a good working knowledge of statistical techniques and understanding of the concepts of calibration and traceability. The key person shall have a good knowledge of radiative transfer in the solar andor infrared spectral ranges and experience in applying them for surface andor atmospheric applications. Proven experience in the use of data analysis tools, such as MatlabIDL, scripting languages, such as PerlPython and highlevel programming, such as CCFORTRAN in a LinuxUnix environment, and an aptitude to learn further programming languages as required. Proven experience in the specification, development, implementation and maintenance of calibration algorithms also with codevelopers. And the following abilities Very good communication skills both verbal and written. Heshe shall have the ability to write concise and comprehensive scientific and technical reports. Heshe shall have good interpersonal skills in the context of EUMETSAT matrix collaborative framework. To work effectively in a small team To work autonomously without close supervision To work to tight deadlines under changing conditions To analyse complex problems, distinguishing between critical and less critical information, and to synthesise and clearly present the results of such analyses. Additionally, the following experience would be considered advantageous Experience of working in an operational satellite environment. Experience of image analysis. Experience with a range of different data formats used in satellite remote sensing. Experience with Software build environments, version control tools and Configuration Management. The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore the Engineer must be able to work effectively in this language and have knowledge of the other.
