JOB DESCRIPTION Maintenance and Software Engineer Responsibilities Duties Tasks The major areas of support are foreseen as follow Maintenance of ISS to support Paranal Science Operations current instruments AMBER and PIONIER. Maintenance of ISS to support GRAVITY instrument commissioning. Development of extensions for the integration and commissioning of CIAO, the GRAVITY Active Optics system. Development of extensions for the integration and commissioning of MATISSE instrument. Development of extensions and maintenance for integration test code simulating instruments and exercising all VLTI subsystems available on VLTI Control Model. Implementation and test of new features according to approved Change Requests Upgrade to new releases of VLT Common software, including upgrade of Operating System and WS platform. Qualifications University degree in Computer science, physics or equivalent. Required knowledge Capability to properly plan, set and adjust priorities in agreement with ESO project representative. Identify key issues, examine options and propose solutions. Familiarity with Astronomy environment, in particular Interferometry. Familiarity with Telescope control software, in particular ESO VLT Control software. Preparedness and physical fitness for travelling to Paranal Chile 2600m for short missions when required. Experience Minimum ten years experience in development, integration and testing of complex software applications running on UNIX platforms, preferably Scientific Linux, realtime OS vxWorks, and sound knowledge of programming languages C, C, Matlab and scripting languages UNIX shell, TclTk. Minimum five years experience with software engineering standards and tools version control, problem reporting systems, software build. ESO is using SVN and JIRA since about three years.
