McCormick walks away from Premier Foods' Mr Kipling share takeover

Shares in Premier Foods slumped by almost 30 per cent this morning after Schwartz spice firm McCormick & Company abandoned its takeover pursuit of the Mr Kipling cakes maker. The US firm walked away from the takeover tussle after having three bid approaches worth up to A 537million rejected by Premier, saying it could not pay a price that would be accepted by the UK group's board.
