Medifast adopts 'poison pill' to ward off takeover attempts

Weight-loss company Medifast, which makes products like Garlic Mashed Potatoes and Sour Cream and Chive Mashed Potatoes, announced a stockholder rights plan Thursday, Aug. 28. Medifast Inc. has moved to put a stockholder rights plan or "poison pill" in place that would make it hard for an outside company to execute a hostile takeover.
