(Telecompaper) Portuguese operators Meo and Nos have announced plans to start offering all mobile phones unlocked. Meo started the offer first on 21 June, saying all devices will be sold unlocked from now on and existing customers can request a code to unlock their device free. In addition to phones, the same applies to tablets, wireless routers and modems. Meo said it would also enhance its purchase conditions, lowering upfront fees and allowing customers to pay for devices interest-free in up to 36 months of installments. All smartphones will also come with 5 GB of data free for three months. Nos quickly responded saying customers only need to request their terminals be unlocked, at no cost in a store or via the Nos website. Subsequently, all equipment sold by Nos will be available unlocked at the time of purchase.
