This vacancy note concerns an onsite consulting position at EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany. Meteorological Product Software Engineer 1613178 Job Description We are looking for a Meteorological Product Software Engineer for our client EUMETSAT. You shall support the Remote Sensing and Products Divisions RSP Atmospheric and Imagery Applications group AIA. You shall support the design, prototyping, operational implementation and validation of the product algorithms. The work is carried out in a small project team consisting of relevant experts. You will also be involved in the analysis and resolution of anomalies relating to the product generation software. Your tasks will typically include Maintenance and extension of a prototyping system Implementation, possible optimisation and validation of new and updated algorithms Acceptance and implementation of third party algorithm software into the prototyping system Preparation of technical notes on implementation issues and user guides, installation notes for the prototyping system Monitoring and operating the product generation facilities both for future ground segments or currently for the MSG MPEF Visualisation and analysis of geophysical products Travel within Europe may be required for certain activities. Required Skills and Experience A University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, such as computer science, physics, mathematics or remote sensing A minimum of 5 years of experience in operational product generation from satelliteremote sensing data. In addition, experience in validation of geophysical products from satellite data is highly desirable. Practical, demonstrable experience with Algorithm software development using FORTRAN 9095 IntelGNULinux andor IBMPOWERAIX environments Implementation of scientific algorithms from a given specification and their documentation IDL programming language and object oriented aspects Common meteorological data formats, i.e., BUFR, GRIB, HDF5, and netCDF Coding and operation of optimal estimation methods for geophysical product retrieval from satellite data Installing and running radiative transfer models for infrared and visible wavelengths Authoring clear and concise technical documentation Desirable Skills and Experience Practical, demonstrable experience of the following will be advantageous Experience using the community RTTOV model from the EUMETSAT NWPSAF Anomaly correction processes Source code control systems Subversion andor git You shall be able to conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner, shall be able to work calmly and correctly under stress and must be able to work with the minimum of supervision. You will be expected to support a team and may be called upon to present your work, therefore good communication skills are a necessity.
