One of Silicon Valley's oldest independent semiconductor companies agreed to be sold Thursday, becoming another in a wave of chip consolidations. Micrel, which was founded in 1978 and has been run since by cofounder and CEO Raymond Zinn, has agreed to be purchased for $14 a share by Microchip Technology, an Arizona-based chip firm.
