Microsoft sues Samsung over IP licence payments

2014-08-04 07:56:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) Microsoft has filed a lawsuit against Samsung in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York to enforce their 2011 cross-licensing contract. Microsoft corporate vice president and deputy general counsel David Howard writes in a blog post that Samsung decided in late 2013 to stop complying with the agreement to pay Microsoft royalties for its IP after Microsoft announced it was acquiring Nokia's devices and services business. The New York Times reports that the lawsuit refers to Samsung stopping making royalty payments on time for Microsoft IP used in Samsung's Android dvices and its refusal to pay interest for the delay. Samsung said it was still reviewing the suit and would determine appropriate measures in response.
