(Telecompaper) Microsoft has announced that its long-awaited Windows 10 operating system will launch in 190 countries on 29 July. The company also confirmed that the software will be available as a free upgrade to PCs running Windows 7 or later, or tablets running Windows 8.1. According to Windows unit head Terry Myerson, Microsoft's goal is to have Windows 10 running on a billion devices within two to three years. In a blog post, Myerson added that the OS is "defined by trust in how we protect and respect your personal information, mobility of the experience across your devices, and natural interactions with your Windows devices, including speech, touch, ink and holograms." Last month Microsoft announced that the new software will come in at least seven different packages, including editions for business PCs, home PCs, mobile devices and even IoT devices.
