Directorate of Human Spaceflight and Operations The European Space Agency is an equal opportunity employer and encourages applications from women POST Mission Analyst in the Mission Analysis Section, Flight Dynamics Division, Ground Systems Engineering Department, Directorate of Human Spaceflight and Operations. This post is classified in the A2A4 grade band of the Coordinated Organisations salary scale. LOCATION ESOC, Darmstadt Germany. DUTIES Reporting to the Head of the Mission Analysis Section, the postholder will participate in the mission analysis activities for future mission studies, spacecraft and ground segment design and the preparation of operations. This encompasses terrestrial, interplanetary and libration point missions. The emphasis of the work is on orbit analysis and related fields, such as tradeoffs for orbit selection optimisation of low and highthrust propulsion trajectories including rocket ascent trajectories computation of atmospheric entry trajectories launch windows and fuel budget analysis prediction of orbitderived data orbit determination and navigation analysis analysis of satellite constellations and formation flight. The postholders duties will include execution and coordination of mission analysis activities development and maintenance of generic mission analysis methods and software tools development of project specific mission analysis tools technical management of mission analysis work packages carried out by contractor companies specification and management of study and development contracts support to projects by participation in tender evaluation and reviews of industrial contracts. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants for this post should have a Masters degree or equivalent qualification in engineering, physics or mathematics. Experience in trajectory design and a good knowledge of orbital dynamics and of the application of mathematical methods to the solution of practical dynamical problems is required. Experience in operations and knowledge of spacecraft attitude dynamics and modern software design methods will be advantageous. The successful candidate will be required to work in a diverse and international environment liaising with engineers in and outside the Department. Excellent teamworking, communication and relationship management skills are therefore required, together with a proactive attitude towards solving problems and the ability to achieve solutions in line with agreed objectives. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these two languages is required together with a working knowledge of the other language. Knowledge of another member state language is an asset. CLOSING DATE The closing date for applications is 14 October 2014.
