Motorola confirms sale of enterprise business to Zebra
2014-04-15 13:15:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Zebra Technologies confirmed a definitive agreement to acquire Motorola's Enterprise business for USD 3.45 billion cash. The acquisition will be funded through a combination of cash on hand and new debt and is expected to be completed by the end of 2014. Motorola said a strategic review showed that the Enterprise business had few synergies with its other activities. The sale leaves it with a focus on security equipment for customers in the government and public safety sector, as well as its iDen networks business. The company plans to return the proceeds of the sale to shareholders. The Motorola enterprise business, which generated 2013 sales of USD 2.5 billion (excluding iDen products), offers mobile computing and data capture devices, used in the retail, transport and logistics, and manufacturing sectors. Zebra Technologies is active in similar solutions for barcode and enterprise printing, asset tracking, Internet of Things (IoT) solutions, and motion and location sensing. The acquisition will more than double the size of its business and bring 4,500 new employees to Zebra.
