Motorola to cut 10 percent of workforce - report

2013-03-08 09:08:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) Motorola Mobility has informed staff that it started laying off around 1,200 workers, or over 10 percent of its total workforce, on top of the 20 percent job reduction announced in August 2011, reports the Wall Street Journal, citing an internal e-mail. The company told staff that its costs are too high, it is operating in markets where it is not competitive and it is losing money. The latest round of job cuts will affect employees in the US, India and China. Parent company Google said Motorola had 11,113 employees at the end of 2012, excluding STB maker Motorola Home, sold to Arris for USD 2.35 billion in December. The company made an over USD 350 million operating loss in the fourth quarter of last year, after reporting an over USD 500 million loss in the third quarter.
