Researchers from NIST's Physical Measurement Laboratory (PML) and JILA are conducting proof-of-principle work to reduce quantum noise in quantum sensors. Potential areas of use include increasing precision of atomic clocks as well as inertial sensors, gravimetry, and electromagnetic field sensing. By experimenting with entangling atoms, team under PML/JILA’s James Thompson demonstrated they can squeeze "quantum fuzziness" out of value of interest by approximate factor of 60 in noise variance.
