Shipments of commodities that are toxic if inhaled will not be accepted by Norfolk Southern rail operations after Dec. 1, and Amtrak service on the freight railroads lines, including those running through Altoona, will end Dec. 31, the railroad announced Tuesday. Norfolk Southern Corp. said in a release its rail operations will no longer accept shipments of "Poisonous-Inhalation-Hazard commodities" effective Dec. 1, and those already in transit will be delivered by Dec. 31 to meet federal law.
