(Telecompaper) Netflix is set to produce "War Machine," a satirical film starring Brad Pitt as a US general loosely based on Stanley McChrystal, Bloomberg reported. Netflix will release the film for streaming in more than 50 countries and in selected cinemas, according to an emailed statement. Filming will start in August under the direction of writer David Michod, with the release planned for next year. The film will show in a handful of theaters for a brief period, enabling it to qualify for an Oscar without losing the option to compete for TV's Emmy Awards. Netflix will adopt a similar strategy with "Beasts of No Nation," a drama starring Idris Elba to be released later this year. Netflix said earlier this year that making USD 10-25 million films made sense for the company. Pitt's production company Plan B will produce the film with Netflix.
