New Belgian rules could pave way for Proximus privatisation

2015-05-06 09:50:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) The Belgian government is preparing legislation that would open the way for the privatisation of Proximus, De Tijd reported. The move would adjust the law of 1991, which said the government had to have a 50 percent stake in the company, plus one extra share. The new rules would make it possible for the government to sell its entire stake in Proximus, although there is still talk of a minimum interest. The new rules are separate from any bids or expressions of interest, such as by KPN this past week. The government has no privatisation plans per se and the legislation will also apply to the national postal operator Bpost.
