Aided by solid performances at its South American and European operations, glass bottle maker Owens-Illinois Inc. on Tuesday reported a third-quarter profit of $60 million, or 37 cents a share, on sales of $1.75 billion. The quarterly profits, however, were down 54 percent from the same period a year ago when the Perrysburg-based company had a profit of $130 million, or 79 cents a share, on sales of $1.78 billion.
