New York Times: President Obama on Thursday signed a proclamation expanding a protected marine reserve in the Pacific Ocean, putting a total of 370,000 square nautical miles off limits to commercial fishing. The designation makes the Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument six times larger than it was and will protect the coral reefs and unique marine ecosystems threatened by fishing and the effects of climate change.
