Job Description For our client, the European Space Agency ESA, we are looking for an Optical Engineer for their location in Noordwijk, the Netherlands, to join their Optics Section. Tasks and Responsibilities Followup of the Instrument Optical Design Aspects and support the development of the Optical Modules by providing expert technical support to ESA projects and studies for the development of optical space instrumentation throughout all project phases Definition and review of all optical system engineering aspects, including requirements, both at system and subsystem level, internal and external interfaces, and engineering budgets Participating in project reviews and support the evaluation of procurement proposals Contribute to designoptical related performances improvement, in particular by identifying critical development problems and assisting in their resolution Develop mathematical modelling and simulations of optical instruments Support the definition and followup of Instrument onground calibration activities and of inorbit commissioning. Requirements Masters degree or equivalent qualification in Optical Engineering or Physics with least 4 years of relevant experience Project andor industrial experience in the design, engineering and testing and verification of various types of optical instrumentation Solid experience in precision optical measurements at system, subassembly and component level Handson experience in optical manufacturing techniques, alignment and tolerancing Proven good familiarity with optical design and performance assessment software like Zemax, ASAP, FRED, with specific emphasis on straylight simulation aspects Proven good familiarity with computer programs such as Excel, MathCAD and MATLAB andor Python Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team within the boundaries of assigned tasks and a stringent schedule Practical experience with the duties described above is an asset Fluency in English both written and spoken is mandatory knowledge of another European language is an advantage.
