Oriental fruit fly declared eradicated in Miami-Dade County

The invasive Oriental Fruit fly, one of the planet's most destructive agricultural pests, has been eradicated in Miami-Dade County following a September outbreak, Florida Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam said Wednesday. "The entire Miami-Dade community stepped up to the plate to help eradicate this pest," Putnam said.
