(Telecompaper) Philippine Long Distance Telephone (PLDT) is opposing the acquisition of Bayan Telecommunications (Bayantel) by rival Globe Telecom. PLDT has filed a petition with the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) opposing the proposed takeover, warning that it would circumvent rules on the allocation of spectrum. PLDT further said that Globe currently has a 32 percent share on the mobile market, versus PLDT's 68 percent, and that the company would acquire a disproportionate amount of spectrum in relation to subscribers, The Philippine Star writes.
