With 2.000 employees worldwide, the CS Group is a leading IT company in France and in Germany, and a prime contractor in designing, integrating and operating mission critical systems. For over 30 years comprehensive CS Group solutions for space systems and applications, both on the ground and in space, have been part and parcel of this odyssey. Supporting the development and operations of the microwave missions belonging to mandatory EUMETSAT programmes, namely EPS and EPSSG is and will be one of the primary objectives of this Activity. This implies maintaining and further evolving EUMETSATs Level 1 and Level 2 products in order to maximise the users benefits obtained from the microwave and submm wave missions under EUMETSAT responsibility. The focus of the work will be mainly related to the PDAP Payload Data Acquisition and Processing infrastructure and in particular, on the scientific and technical aspects associated to the development and testing of the product processing functions of the microwave sounding and imaging missions of the EPSSG ground segment. Further activities include the support to CalVal preparation e.g. supporting development of CalVal tools, support to CalVal and Commissioning activities, product monitoring, and resolving product anomalies related to microwave and submm product processing chains. Future missions relevant to EUMETSAT could also materialize, like the mini microwave sounders andor imagers complementary to the MWS mission, and eventually to the MWI and ICI missions. Thus, future activities will entail preparation for studies on microwave and submm missions beyond EPSSG, assessment of miniMW sounder conceptsopportunities against core user requirements or evaluation of data from third party missions, development of processing prototypes for the global and local missions, calibration and intercalibration monitoring. Another activity that might become relevant in the near future is the technical and scientific support to Level 2 products and eventually L1 derived from the Copernicus Imaging Microwave Radiometer CIMR Mission. Profile Mandatory skills University degree in physical remote sensing, meteorology, oceanography, physics, ITComputational Science, or equivalent Good written communication skills. These are essential for the fulfillment of the tasks Skills in writing scientifictechnical documents Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite Fluency in English is mandatory this is the working language at EUMETSAT, and the Contractors must be able to work effectively in this language both in written and spoken form. Additional skills At least three years of experience in the field of physical remote sensing in one or more of the areas listed above, including involvement in processing of satellite data up to level 1 calibrated geolocated radiances andor level 2 geophysical parameters, satellite data monitoring Very good skills in a highlevel programming language, such as Fortran, CC, Java, Python Fluency in commandline use on LinuxUnix platforms Very good experience in scientific software development Experience with the development of modular, clearly readable and adaptable scientific software is required, including the configuration control of the developed codes Verification of operational product processing systems Configuration control of software and data Production monitoring and reporting Quality control of satellite data and products The following experience would be an additional asset Experience with the specification, development and validation of satellite data processing chains Utilisation of products from meteorological satellites Experience with calibration and product validation methods Experience with common UNIXLinux development tools e.g., make, automakeautoconf, debugging tools for multithreaded applications, profiling tools Experience with source code management processes in particular branch based development workflows, and peer code reviews and tools git, subversion Experience in software unit, acceptance, system and integration testing Familiarity with programming platform tools like Matlab Knowledge in radiative transfer Experience in the use of image processing software such as IDL or ENVI in a UNIXLinux environment Experience in the use of Scripting Languages e.g. Perl, Python, shell Experience in scientific computing using NumPy and SciPy Familiarity in manipulating analysis and forecast data from NWP models Experience in understanding and specifying requirements Experience in writing software documentation.
